Dr. Md Kausar Raza joined the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Fall 2025. Prior to joining UWL, he held postdoctoral and research appointments at the California Institute of Technology and The Pennsylvania State University. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. His research integrates inorganic chemistry, photochemistry, and chemical biology to develop metal-based therapeutics and study metallocofactors in viral disease.
Current Lab Members

Amy Schaetz
Amy is currently a junior and is pursuing the ACS-certified Chemistry major and minoring in Biology. She has been involved in the research group since Spring 2026. Her research focuses on photodynamic therapy and its combination with immunotherapy.

Aliyah Schieldt
Aliyah is a freshman pursuing the Radiation Therapy major. She has been a member of the lab since Spring 2026 and is currently exploring photodynamic therapy and immunotherapy using metal-based complexes.

Ezra Santiago
Ezra is a freshman pursuing a Biochemistry major at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He has been a member of the group since Spring 2026 and is currently studying photodynamic therapy using metal-based complexes for cancer treatment.

Isaac McKenzie
Isaac is a freshman pursuing a Biochemistry major. He has been a member of the group since Spring 2026 and is currently investigating the role of iron-sulfur [Fe-S] clusters in viral proteins.
